Celebrating International Day of Forests

Forests play a very important role in our daily lives. Forests combat climate change and provide many benefits for current and future generations. Time to celebrate the forests! Forests provide us also with amazing products, such as oils and butters, and Jan Dekker is proud to bring you these ingredients.

Cosmetics can profit from the biodiversity that forests provide – and oils and butters obtained from forest plants or trees are very good examples. Of course they are known for hydration and skin health improvement, but they can do so much more! They are not just inert carriers, but contain a wealth of bioactives. Their activity is not surprising, we might have developed ourselves surrounded by the tools that nature has provided us to survive.

Many forest oils and butters can provide protection against harmful substances, and provide a soothing activity, boost collagen, or have an anti-inflammatory action. No surprise that the indigenous population uses forest oils/butters as a medicine, profiting from the great biodiversity of the forest.

Our forest oils

Examples of our oils/butters is our Brazilian range, from e.g. andiroba oil, murumuru, pracaxi, buriti, cupuacu butter, and our mango kernel butter, shorea and illipe butter. Having an income from forest oils/butters means that rural living is supported. In many cases, the fact that local people are dependent on the intact forest, means that it might be protected against slashing. A very good example is our Illipe Butter, having an income from Illipe Butter can save that forest from deforestation for monoplantations.
