Consumer attitudes on antioxidants

Consumers are becoming more health conscious and critical of ingredients in food, especially those considered to be ''unnatural''. The perception of E-numbers/additives (especially preservatives) is often that they are unhealthy and synthetic, so discerning consumers may avoid products that label these ingredients.

Natural antioxidants

Antioxidants have the reputation of bringing health benefits. Foods naturally rich in antioxidants, such as certain berries and dark leafy greens, are often described as ‘superfoods’. Some natural antioxidants, such as tocopherols, can be used as additives to effectively protect food from oxidation and rancidity.

In that sense, the natural antioxidants can help extending the shelf life. Furthermore, their presence on a label may boost the perceived health and natural status of the product.

Tocomix L series

Our Tocomix L series contains an efficient mix of tocopherols that give high levels of protection to a wide range of food products. Unlike some other types of tocopherol, the Tocomix L series is completely natural, extracted from plants and not subjected to synthesis steps or chemical modification.
The (EU) labelling required for Tocomix L series indicates its natural extract status: Tocopherol-rich extract, which should be preceded by the category: antioxidant, reminding consumers of the health benefits associated with this type of additive.
