Powder vs. liquid
In view of the fact that antioxidants are used in very low concentrations ranging from 100 - 2000mg/kg (ppm), it is obvious that these products need to be very evenly dispersed in the system to get an optimal effect. Most available antioxidants are powders or thick pastes and therefore not easy to handle.

Manufacturers of antioxidants have therefore gone to great length to develop liquid formulations with single or multiple components, often based on very proprietary know-how, which readily disperse or solubilise in oils and fats. Apart from an easier handling these ready formulations offer also the following advantages:

  • they enable better control and accuracy in applying antioxidants
  • they combine different antioxidants to take advantage of their different types of potency and activity
  • they provide the synergistic effects of antioxidant and acid combinations
  • they minimize discoloration problems associated with certain antioxidants
