On August 31st Jan Dekker International
acquired the advanced AEO certificate. After one and a half year of hard work Jan
Dekker was certified by the Customs Authority as an Authorised Economic
Operator (AEO). Jan Dekker has been accredited by customs as AEO due to the
fact that the internal processes at Jan Dekker have been proven to be of high
quality.
Thanks to the AEO status Jan Dekker
International’s goods are better protected against tampering and theft. Now
Customs trust Jan Dekker as an operator and perform less or no inspections on
goods imported and/or exported by and/or through Jan Dekker. Jan Dekker’s goods
will be available without delays and therefore Jan Dekker can provide possibly
shorter lead times to its customers.
Jan Dekker’s AEO status proves to both customers
and suppliers that Jan Dekker controls its internal processes very well. An AEO
is a financially healthy and safe organization; no fraud takes place and its
administration is transparent. This all proves Jan Dekker International to be a
reliable partner.
‘As AEO is serious business but relatively
new, it shows that Jan Dekker is still taking a leading position in making the
most of its opportunities!’ says Niek van der Ley, Jan Dekker International’s
CEO ‘Thus we are very proud to be
one of the few international companies with this certificate’.
About the AEO certification
The concept of
‘safety and security’ has been included in the European customs legislation.
Companies and their suppliers involved in EU cross-border movements of goods
will have to comply with this new legislation. When introducing new
legislation, the European Union intends to offer the business sector better
facilities. These facilities should result in the reduction of logistic delays
and administrative burdens. As of September 2007 enterprises may therefore
apply for the status of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO). An AEO certificate
is valid in all EU member states.
The introduction
of the AEO status is for EU customs an important next step towards cooperation
with the business sector. It fits in with the aim to ‘horizontalize’
supervision. This means that the business sector together with the customs
department are responsible for a safe and incorruptible goods flow crossing
external borders. It offers the prospect of ensuring together a safe logistic
chain.
