Jan Dekker International herewith announces the cooperation with Burkinakarité, a union of women associations dedicated to shea butter production and commercialization. This cooperation brings a major change in the lives of 500 women living in five different communities in the Houet province in Burkina Faso. The project helps them to become financially independent so that they will be able to pay school fees for their children and buy medicines for their families. “We are very proud of this project”, says Ton Trentelman, Jan Dekker International’s CEO. “By working together, the women can sell their raw shea butter directly to international buyers without relying on middlemen. They receive a fair price that not only covers their costs of production but guarantees a fair wage for their labour.” About Burkinakarité Burkinakarité was started in 2006 with support of the A.S.A.P. foundation in order to have the means to sell the production of shea butter on the export market. The association’s headquarter is located in Bobo Dioulasso and brings women together of the five villages Kofila, Kwekwesso, Oualana, Mogobasso and Toungana in Burkina Faso. The association is there to help the women to find customers, to control the production and to invest in equipment. Through Burkinakarité women can triple the revenue coming from the shea butter.
